Effe Minelli moves his research in the areas of sculpture and performance. His training takes place internationally and in particular at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg with Professor Thomas Demand and the Academy of Fine Arts in Viennaunder Professor Monica Bonvicini. While his formative years kept Effe Minelli out of the Italian context, it was in 2018 that the artist chose to return to Italy, first spending a period of residency in Naples (in a striking location behind the botanical garden), and later in Torre del Greco, where he currently has his studio. Effe Minelli’s work focuses on key themes such as gender identity and fluidity, the deconstruction of myth and History, and the analysis of the meaning of monument in the contemporary. These areas, in turn, open up further pieces and layers of meaning in the artist’s research, which come to make Effe Minelli’s interests markedly heterogeneous. His poetics is specifically formalized in sculpture, and especially in the use of porcelain, and in performance, in which the artist develops himself or entrusts the performer with its execution. This approach allows the artist to maintain a consistent formal figure even when the two languages, sculpture and performance, are mixed. Especially in his approach to the language of sculpture, Effe Minelli focuses on making small objects, sometimes body parts, such as arms or feet, conceived as prosthetics worn during performances. Such porcelain objects - to which are added masks, headgear or jewelry with archaic forms- are part of a research that has involved, in recent years, several artists in Italy and abroad and that sees, precisely in the production of small or medium-sized ceramic works, a particularly used and common form of expression.
